Matt Steele is a visual effects and CG animation veteran with over sixteen years of professional experience in film, television and games. Matt most recently served as a senior technical animator at Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he was one of two character finaling artists, completing over 300 shots for the summer release, Green Lantern. In addition, he was a senior facial setup artist on the upcoming Sony Pictures Animation release, Arthur.
Prior to that, he spent seven years as a senior character technical director at DreamWorks Animation, where he was an expert in facial animation systems, deformation systems, and
rigging tool development. During his time at DreamWorks, he worked on Shark Tale (2004), Flushed Away (2006), Kung Fu Panda (2007), Bee Movie (2008), How To Train Your Dragon
(2010) and Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011).
Matt also provided consulting services for the world-renowned game company, Infinity Ward, where he developed the animation and performance capture blending system used on all titles starting with Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Matt is an expert in animation tool development, rigging, and facial anatomy. He is also well-versed in all other aspects of CGI and production, including animation, modeling, lighting, rendering, compositing, CG supervision, on-set VFX supervision, and cinematography. He is a published Siggraph author, a member of ASIFA and the Animation Guild, and one of the founding members of the open source Maya Python library project RBE. Matt is joining Steelehouse as the CG Supervisor with responsibilities for CGI pipeline design and development and adding his formidable skills and experience to our VFX and Animation team.
